Who is Rob Rayburn?
The session has invited Rev. Robert Rayburn, and his wife, Florence, to join us for our Winter Theology Conference in January, 2012. Exact dates are not available yet, but the topics have to do with the state of contemporary Evangelicalism in America and the distinctive of Reformed theology.
Rob has been the pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Tacoma, Washington for more than 30 years, becoming the pastor in 1978 as he completed his doctoral studies in New Testament at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Rob has ministered to our congregation directly through his service as the clerk for our presbytery (Pacific Northwest Presbytery), offering wise counsel as we joined the PCA three years ago. But Rob has also ministered to our body indirectly through sermons of his that were read by our elders Sunday morning in the absence of a pastor.
Rob has written a commentary on Hebrews in the Evangelical Commentary on the Bible (Baker, 1989) as well as ”A Presbyterian Defense of Paedocommunion” in The Case for Covenant Communion (Athanasius, 2006) and “Parental Conditions and the Promise of Grace to the Children of Believers” in To You and Your Children: Examining the Biblical Doctrine of Covenant Succession (Canon, 2005).
How can I get to know him?
You should know that visitors are always welcome to attend Presbytery meetings, of which there are three per year, always on the church calendar. Of course, this will involve travel to the Lower-48! An easier way is listen to a couple of Rob’s sermons posted both at Faith as well as Gospel Coalition.
Rob diligently supplies his congregation with sermon manuscripts and a handful are available through Monergism.com. You can also read the articles he has written for Tabletalk Magazine.
Please stay tuned for more information as our Winter Theology Conference takes shape.
