Al Edwards obituary

19 August 2011

Albert "Al" Edwards

In an earlier post, I was unable to locate the obituary for Rev. All Edwards who passed away on August 9th. Scott Johnson of Grace OPC emailed the following.

Albert G. Edwards, III, 84, passed away on August 9, 2011, at his home in Medford, Ore. Al was born of missionary parents on May 9, 1927, in Baghdad, Iraq. Educated at home until age 11, he later attended private schools in St. Louis, Mo., and Sao Paulo, Brazil. After serving a year in the Navy, and graduating from Yale University, he married Polly McKinley, of St. Louis, in 1949. He received his bachelor of divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary in 1952, and for forty years pastored churches in N.J.; Portland, Ore.; and Billings, Montana.

Al loved to tinker in his workshop, find treasures in thrift shops, and work on his computer. A ham radio operator for over fifty years, he also enjoyed his membership in various amateur radio clubs. Al was known for his wit, ready smile, and a servant’s heart. His passion in life was to tell people about the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; siblings, Ben Edwards, David Edwards, and Peggy Barker; numerous nieces and nephews; children, Lucy (Jay) Milojevich, Cathy Percich, Peggy (Steve) Hubley, and Tad (Mary) Edwards; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Again, as stated earlier, we praise God for this kind shepherd who ministered directly to many in our body. Indirectly, he ministered to all of us at Faith as he cared for this congregation while we were without a pastor.

You can read more, and post to a guestbook, at the page prepared by Hillcrest Mortuary.
