Five Foundations
A part of “What matters most to Faith Anchorage” can be captured in our Five Foundations. Ultimately, these foundations would more helpfully shared face-to-face over a cup of coffee, so please don’t hesitate calling an elder to learn more, or by attending our Introduction to Faith seminar.
The five foundations:
Scripture: We believe that the Holy Bible is God’s plan for redemption and the only rule of faith (what to believe) and duty (what to do), not only for the church, but for all of creation. By the Holy Spirit, it is also the means by which God convinces and converts sinners and builds up and comforts Christians.
Worship: Scripture tells us that God is holy, that there is none like Him, and that He alone is worthy of human worship. He is the only Creator, and we are but creatures who owe fidelity to Him. Therefore, we seek to glorify and enjoy Him in corporate worship that is singularly God-centered, meaning, it is centered upon His Son since, as John Calvin says, “no worship has ever pleased God except that which looked to Christ.” Worship is the ordinary means by which Christian faith is strengthened, and by which the lost come to faith.
Fellowship: Christians are a body of diverse and unique people who have been united to one Head, Jesus Christ. In our worship and in our life, we share in one another’s gifts, graces, and fellowship with humility, gentleness, patience, love, and unity.
Holiness: We believe that the Holy Spirit not only graciously redeems us, but also works in us to graciously renew our inner being in such a way that we are conformed to the righteousness of His Son, Jesus Christ. This is our life of gratitude.
Engagement: In submitting all thinking, speaking, and doing to the lordship of Jesus, wherever Christians go, they are called to glorify God in all that they think, speak, and do. Even while Protestant Christians have differences regarding how cultural engagement takes place, a Christian is not permitted to separate the sacred sphere from the secular so that Christian life and faith is withheld from the world.
