Worship
At Faith Anchorage, we usually (but not exclusively), use the Trinity Hymnal, revised edition for worship. This hymnal contains 740 hymns; see the titles and composers. There is also a searchable database of the previous (1961) edition. For more hymns, see the Hymnary Project.
For our readings from the Bible during worship, Faith Anchorage uses the English Standard Version of the Bible, published by Crossway Books. For those unfamiliar with the ESV, it is an “essentially literal” translation that seeks to reveal, as best as possible, the structure and meaning of the original text. At the same time, the ESV seeks to be literarily excellent so that “echoes and overtones of meaning” are evident (learn more). You can find an online version (with audio files) here.
During Advent, we celebrated a Service of Readings in which we gathered to read the entire story of Jesus’ birth from the English Standard Version of the Bible. Here is a copy of that narrative (PDF).
