“How do I become a member?”

Below are the steps for becoming a member of Faith.

Educate. One of the reasons we offer the Introduction to Faith seminar as frequently as we do is so that it becomes a regular part of our life. You should never have to wait very long to have an opportunity to hear about (and question) what makes Faith, Faith. Check out the calendar for the latest offering.

Initiate. When you are ready, you must take the initiative to contact an elder in order to begin the process. This will cue two elders to schedule a time to sit down with you either at your home, at church, or, sometimes, in a private corner at a cafe. Parents, please note that Faith elders do not conduct interviews for children under the age of ten. Children under the age of ten, even though they may have received baptism, are not admitted to the Lord’s Table.

Interview. The visit is brief (less than an hour for a couple) and focused (the topic is just the interview for membership). The elders are not looking for spectacular testimonies, eloquent speech, grave sins in your non-Christian life, extraordinary stories, or fidelity to Continental Theology.  The elders will be listening for simple evidence of a Romans 10.8-17 profession of faith, namely, Three-Fs: Faith, Fruit, and the Fight against sin in your life.

Testify. At the following session meeting, the elders who conducted the interview will testify to the others regarding your interview. If the membership is a transfer from another church, they will alert the sending church of our desire to receive you (if you have not done so already). The next step will be to record your names in the meeting minutes and to announce your names to the congregation via the Sunday morning bulletin.

Reception. Unless you are transferring from another PCA church, you will be asked to participate in a worship service in which you are publicly received as a member. This takes place in the service as our Confession of Faith because we are all making vows to one another.
