becoming a Christian
While it’s true that there are a number of resources on the topic of ‘becoming a Christian,’ one Christian professor reminds us that it is difficult to define any relationship, good or bad, not to mention a relationship between humanity and God. Yet, fundamentally, that is actually what a Christian has been given: a reconciled, fruitful, healthy relationship with God.
This relationship comes about through the life and message of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This life and message is called, the Gospel.
If this sounds terribly foreign to you, please watch Pastor Tim Keller of Redeemer Manhattan speak on his book, Reasons for God, as a part of Google’s Authors@Google program.
You can also consider the following links. However, keep in mind that none of these links will buy you coffee; please contact John Jones or another elder of Faith to talk about the reconciled life over a cup of coffee.
- Video: You can watch Pastor Mark Dever of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington D. C. describe this life and message of Jesus in the video, “What is the Gospel”.
- Audio: You can listen to Pastor Tim Keller, “Who is this Jesus”. You can also listen to Rev. Vaughan Roberts of St. Ebbe’s Church, Oxford, “Why Christianity is such good news”.
- Print: You can also read a brief outline written by Pastor Tom Gibbs of Redeemer San Antonio called, “Establishing a Relationship With God, that is linked to the passages in the Bible that best-articulate the Christian’s relationship with God. Similarly, Pastor Tim Keller has written a wonderfully helpful article, “How Can I Know God”.
- Flash: Finally, Matthias Media in Australia have put together a great online presentation that is both concise (six slides, no more than ten minutes) and gracious, called “Two Ways to Live”.
